I love New Year’s resolutions. Whether big, ambitious goals or “just for fun” type stuff, I thoroughly enjoy making plans for the year to come.
This year is no different. I’ve spent the past couple weeks creating lists and schedules, designing color coded charts, etc. Might sound excessive, but I thrive on organization. Calendars, reminders, ways to keep track of my progress… that’s how I get shit done.
My 15 Resolutions for 2022
WRITING
- WRITE DAILY
More specifically, I’m aiming for 208 writing days in 2022, which averages out to four days a week. - FINISH NOM
All I have left is the epilogue (5000-7000 words), so this should be easy. - FINISH VOV
Nine chapters to go on this one (around 60,000 words), though I’m determined to finish it before NaNoWriMo 2022. - START NEW WRITING PROJECT
I love the two stories I mentioned above, but I’ve also been working on them since 2017. I am so ready to wrap them up so I can finally move on to something new.
3D STUFF
- WEEKLY ARTWORK
This one is straightforward. I just want to create at least one new piece of artwork each week. - WORK ON PRODUCTS/TUTORIALS
I already have plenty of models for sale in my Renderosity store, though I plan to create quite a few more in 2022. I also want to work on my skills so I can create other products (more clothing, hair, environments, etc). I’m planning to set aside time for this each week.
CREATIVE (OTHER)
- BLOG WEEKLY
On one hand, this seems pointless. Why bother posting content that hardly anyone will read?Because I hate social media, that’s why. I hate what it’s done to the internet, and I hate what it represents. Greedy, soulless corporate interests killing off small, independent communities and websites…
I can’t reverse that, nor can I attract the kind of traffic I did 10 or 15 years ago. But I can still maintain my own space, which makes me feel just a tiny bit better.
Also, it’s a good outlet. I feel comfortable on my own site, not bound by the limitations (and general self-consciousness) of social media. That’s something I value on a personal level, regardless of who does (or doesn’t) read it.
- START PODCAST
I’ve been procrastinating on this for months, though it wasn’t until recently that I figured out why. I’m intimidated as hell by the idea, to the point where I’ve convinced myself that it’ll be a failure. Why? I honestly don’t know.My goal is to get to the bottom of (and hopefully conquer) that fear. I still want to start a podcast, preferably at some point this year.
- FINISH BLANKET
For the first time in my life, I managed to crochet an entire blanket. All that’s left is the edging (a few hours of work). I set it aside about a year ago, and I just haven’t gotten back to it. That needs to change… it really would be nice to finish the damn thing.
SELF CARE
- EXERCISE DAILY
As with my writing goal, I’m hoping to exercise at least four days a week (208 days). I know that sounds like a lot, but I’m starting really small. My plan is to gradually build a habit with as little pressure as possible.
FUN STUFF
- READ 50 BOOKS
One book a week? Easy enough. - WATCH 50 MOVIES
I rarely watch movies aside from old favorites. This year, I’m challenging myself to watch 50 movies I’ve never seen before.
MISCELLANEOUS
- SAVE MONEY
Hoping to do this on a weekly basis, even if it’s just a little bit at a time. - AVOID POLITICAL INTERACTION
I wrote an entire post about this a few weeks ago, so I won’t elaborate too much. Basically, I just want to keep politics to a minimum/focus more on other things, especially when it comes to my friendships. - AVOID SHITTY PEOPLE
My boundaries have gotten a lot stronger over the past few years, and I intend to keep it that way. I will not be baited by emotionally manipulative/abusive people, nor will I put up with anyone who refuses to own up to their own bullshit. Maybe I was willing to put up with that in my 20s, but my 40s? No fucking way.
So yeah, that’s all 15 of my resolutions. 🙂 We’ll see how I do…
